Scene Description: the metal [bronze?] cover has an arm that rests on the tall pivot at the back; with the front latch unchained and lifted, the arm swings the cover sideways. Although it is not a unique occurance, it is not a common system either

There are two stone fonts in the cathedral at this time [2014]; of the two the older one, perhaos 16th- to 18th-century, consists of a roughly hemispherical basin with a broad lip moulding at the upper rim and several other angular mouldings below and at the bottom of the underbowl; raised on a squat circular pedestal base decorated with late-Gothic tracery. This font has a fancy metal [bronze?], of a rare type in which the cover is attached to an arm that swings it open from a pivot at the back; not unique but rather rare, with some examples in France and Belgium. The other font is modern, located between the tower door and the fiirst chapel off the north aisle; it consists of a roughly hemispherical basin with a very broad rope moulding and an equally broad roll moulding all around the sides. the underbowl decorated with incised ribbed pattern, raised on a squat polygonal base. Its cover is also modern. [NB: we have no information on the font of the 12th-century church here]
