The "Proxecto de restauración e posta en valor da piscina romana da Praza de Santa María" [www.lugo.es/urban/piscina.html] [accessed 21 April 2015] informs of the discovery in 1960 of what was suspected to be a Hispano-Roman baptistery font or a part of a Roman baths; it was later set for excavation in 2010 when means became available for its unearthing and resoration. The object, located in the Plaza de Santa María, between the Fundación Caixa Galicia and the 13th-century cathedral of Lugo capital, is believed to be either an Early Christian baptistery piscina, or part of a Roman bath complex, either part of a 'frigidarium' or a domestic 'balneum'. Archaeologist Miguel Ángel López [http://elpais.com/diario/2011/05/04/galicia/1304504305_850215.html] [accessed 21 April 2015] reported a sunken "piscina" of rectangular shape measuring 3.5 by 1.80 m., with two apses and a set of descending steps, and with an estimated capacity of 4,000 liters [="de unas dimensiones aproximadas de 3,5 por 1,80 metros". "Es rectangular, tiene dos ábsides y un escalón de acceso y se calcula que su capacidad es de casi 4.000 litros de agua"]. [NB: given the shape and size of the object, as well as the structure and ancillary parts relevant to the object, it is unlikely that it was a baptismal piscina, but more likely a part of a bath complex].
