Church Notes: earlier church with 15thC tower replaced by new church on a new site in 1924
An entry in the Jaarboek van Limburgs Geschied- en Oudheidkundliche Genootschap (vol. 5, 1868: 458), listed under the heading "Voici quelques données concernant des actes de vandalisme qui se commettent encore de nos jours dans le Limbourg aux fonts baptismaux", notes: "A Munstergeleen, un fragment notable du vase sacré, dans lequel une longue suite de générations a été incorporée à l'Eglise, se trouve sur la voie publique, comme pierre d achoppement ." The present font is dated 1776.
A communication from Pol Hermanto BSI (e-mail of 14 February 2022) adds two other sources that make a reference to the lost fragment: 1) Het Duvelke uit het Zuiden, Flament, 1918: At Munstergeleen the old baptismal font is broken, and a piece has been thrown onto the public road as a stumbling block, and 2) Voorloopige lijst derNederlandsche monumentenvan geschiedenis en kunst. DeelVIII, II. De provincie Limburg (Meerloo-Zwalmen), 1926: The Roman Catholic Church (H. Pancratius): Bluestone head (± 1200) of a Romanesque baptismal font.
