Font Notes:
Catalogued and illustrated in Ghislain (2009) as the surviving lower base of a baptismal font of the Namurois group, filiation Beauvechain, made of limestone (calcaire de Meuse) ca. 1150-1160, a date that can be ascertained in relation to a fire that destroyed the church in 1150; the font, of which only the base has survived, was introduced soon after the fire. This lower base now supports a much later font consisting of an octagonal basin decorated with four protruding heads (human and animal) at 90-degree angles, and a flat rim moulding, the sides rounding down around the underbowl; on an octagonal-to-square stem; the upper surface of the lower base has been damaged, perhaps cut to accommodate a different supporting solution in an intermediary life between the original design and the present. A round wooden cover is in place; appears modern.
