Church Notes: original Jesuit mission church ca.1670; destroyed 1706; re-built in 1710 an dedicated to St. George; destroyed by a hurricane 1843; re-built 1844 but finished and consecrated 1859; destroyed by fire 1867; restored 1869; damaged by hurricanes in the late-20thC
[NB: we have no information on the font of the original late-17th century church here]. The present font consists of an octagonal basin with simple octafoiled panels and a graded underbowl chamfer, raised on a moulded octagonal pedestal base and lower base of the same shape; on a plain octagonal plinth. Octagonal font cover of open-work sides, and a finial that appears to depict St. George and the dragon.
