Font Notes:
Baptismal font noted in the SIPA [ref.: IPA.00006594] [www.monumentos.pt/Site/APP_PagesUser/SIPA.aspx?id=6594] [accessed 28 February 2015]: "Na nave do lado da Epístola, pia baptismal de cantaria esculpida e policromada no piso térreo da torre [...] 1504 - oferta do rei D. Manuel de uma pia baptismal datada". Stone baptismal font consisting of a round tapering basin decorated with a protruding vine all around; the vine is somewhat odd, since it appears to be a leafless braid or interlace, but has very prominent arum-like fruit bunches on it; above this vine is an inscription [no transcription available] which includes several crosses in it; it is raised on a round pedestal base that has what appears to be an animal or animals forming the centre ring, with mouldings a foliage motifs on the slaying lower base, which is also circular. There is no font cover present. The font is in the Late Gothic / Baroque style known is Portugal as "manuelino", and is located at the west end of the nave, in the espace set up as baptistery beneath the tower.
