Font Notes:
There is an entry for this Aston [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP0889/aston/] [accessed 26 February 2015]; it mentions a priest, but not a church in it, through there probably was one there. The Victoria County History (Warwick, vol. 7, 1964) notes: "The ancient parish church of ST. PETER AND ST. PAUL, Aston, may be assumed to have existed since the time of Domesday or earlier, for Domesday Book mentions a priest at Aston. [...] The parish church, which stands close to Aston Hall at the junction of Witton Lane and Park Road, is a stone building consisting of a chancel with north organ chamber and south chapel, nave, north and south aisles, porch and west tower with a tall spire. [...] Only the tower is ancient, dating from the 15th century. The spire was rebuilt in 1776. [...] The rest of the church was thoroughly rebuilt between 1879 and 1890. [...] Most of the furniture is modern." Dargue's 'A history of Birmingham churches... from A to Y' [http://ahistoryofbirminghamchurches.jimdo.com/aston-ss-peter-paul/] [accessed 26 February 2015] notes" : "In front of the tower arch is the font of 1881 with an elaborate cover designed by Chatwin." [NB: we have no information on the font from the Domesday-time church here]
