There is an entry for Edgbaston [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP0584/edgbaston/] [accessed 18 February 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Warwick, vol. 7, 1964) notes: "The church of St. BARTHOLOMEW, Edgbaston, also known as Edgbaston parish church, was originally a chapel of Harborne. The first mention of Edgbaston church was in 1279, when Henry de Ganio resigned to the Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield the parish church of Harborne with its chapel of Edgbaston. [...] It may be assumed that Edgbaston church was built not long before 1279, for it was not mentioned in earlier disputes about Harborne church [...] The font and furniture are modern." The present font is located at the west end of the nave. The other churches in Edgbaston: St. George (1838), St. James (1852), St. Augustin (1868) and St Mary and St Ambrose (1898) are all modern. [NB: we have no information on the font of the original church here]
