Scene Description: Source caption: "St John's Church was built in 1839 originally as a chapel of ease to St Botolph's at Newbold on Avon. It subsequently served Long Lawford's growing population but was closed in 1995 when the fabric of the building was found to be unsafe. Services were permanently transferred to the nearby former church hall. The old church is now being offered for commercial sale or let."

There is an entry for [Long] Lawford [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP4775/long-lawford/] [accessed 29 January 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. English Heritage notes: "Church; built as a chapel of ease. Dated 1839 [...] Font of 1886 has four granite columns and octagonal basin." Aidan McRae Thomson, of Warwickshire Churches [www.flickr.com/photos/amthomson/10733029236/in/photostream/] [accessed 29 January 2015] writes: "St Peter's at Church Lawford is a mostly Victorian structure by Slater & Carpenter 1872 and quite a handsome building. The only medieval part is the north arcade inside and a plain blocked Norman south door." A 12 September 2009 photograph showed the church had been put up for dale or let. [NB: we have no information on the font from the original Norman church here].
