There are two entries for Newebold [Verdon] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SK4403/newbold-verdon/] [accessed 12 January 2015], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. English Heritage [Listing NGR: SK4433303786] (1966) reports: "Font has plain octagonal bowl, possibly C13." [NB: not clear whether this old font is still in the church; there is a later font here, probably from the late-19th century rebuilding of the church].
