There is an entry for [Butlers] Marston [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP3150/butlers-marston/] [accessed 19 December 2014]; it mentions a priest but not a church in it, though there probably was one there, The Victoria County History (Warwick, vol. 5, 1949) notes: "There was a priest, implying a church, at Marston in 1086. [...] The church of Marston was given by Ralph le Boteler to the Abbey of Alcester when he founded that house in 1140 [...] The font has a 12th-century round bowl; the sides are carved with an interlacing arcade and the moulded top edge is enriched with a kind of dog-tooth ornament. The base-mould of the bowl is of three cable-beads. The base has a 13th-century 'hold-water' mould and it is set on a sub-base which has a plain round mould above a splay." English Heritage [Listing NGR: SP3205849949] (1966), however, reports: "C15 octagonal font with quatrefoils, and cusped lights around shaft." [are there two fonts? is there an error? the octagonal does not look like a re-worked Norman font -- TO BE SORTED OUT]
