There is an entry for this Sherbourne [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP2661/sherbourne/] [accessed 25 November 2014]; it reports a priest but not a church in it, though there probably was one there. The entry for this parish in Notices of the churches of Warwickshire (vol. 2, 1858) notes: "It had a church at the time of the Norman Conquest [...] The Church was originally given to the Knights Templar [...] The present structure was built [...] in the year 1747 [...] The font, which stands at the west end of the nave, consists of a circular black marble basin, set on a baluster-shaped shaft." The Victoria County Histowy (Warwick, vol. 3, 1945) notes: "There was a priest in Sherbourne in 1086. [...] The church of Sherbourne was granted to the Templars and in 1185 was valued at one mark. [...] The medieval church [...] consisting of a chancel with south chapel, nave, and, probably, a western tower, survived until 1747, when the nave and tower were rebuilt by Thomas Webb. The remainder, apparently of 14th-century date, was pulled down and rebuilt in 1802 by the Rev. Elias Webb and Thomas Webb Edge, joint lords of the manor. [...] In 1864 the whole building was superseded by the present church erected by Miss Ryland at a cost of £20,000 from designs by Sir Gilbert Scott." The present font is not the one reported in Notices... [cf. supra], but a later one consisting of an octagonal basin decorated with stylised quatrefoiled motifs on the sides, and a carved underbowl; raised on a pedestal of clustered colonnettes with capitals and bases, and a plain octagonal lower base.
