Miller (1890) writes: "The Church of St. James has been entirely rebuilt; the old church, which was of the 13th century, being so much dilapidated that rebuilding was necessary. The present church consists of a chancel and nave. It was built 1867"; Miller gives the first recorded vicar of this church as "Will'us Junberhaug ... 1297". The Victoria County History (Worcester, vol. 3, 1913) notes: " It was probably this Robert de Hurcott who in 1234–5 dealt with the adjoining vill of Hurcott. [...] A few years later he granted 'the land of Churchill' with the advowson of the church to Hugh Drugel in free marriage with his sister Margery. [...] The church of ST. JAMES is a modern building, and consists of a chancel with a north vestry, above which is the tower, and a nave with a wooden south porch. The material of the building is red sandstone, and the design is in the style of the early 14th century. In the nave is a modern octagonal font."
