There are eleven entries for Droitwich [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SO8963/droitwich/] [accessed 16 September 2014], it being spread over seven counties, from Worcestershire through Oxfordshire; only one of the eleven entries, the holding for which Leofnoth the priest was lord, reports a priest in it but there is no mention of a church, though there probably was one there. This church is not mentioned in Miller (1890). English Heritage (1951) reports a modern font in this ca.1200 church : "The octagonal font, with foliage panels, foliage on the undersides, and stem with attached shafts, is by H.H. Martyn & Co." The Parish web site [www.droitwichparish.org.uk/about/augustine.html] [accessed 6 November 2014] notes: "St Augustine's Church. The Church on the Hill. Dodderhill is the oldest site of any of the Droitwich Churches. There was a Roman fort on this hill, and although we don't know when the first church was built here, there was an Anglo-Saxon church on this site, almost certainly first a wooden one, and then a stone building. It was significant enough for St Wulfstan to acquire the living of St Augustine's for the priory of Worcester. [...] Work started on the Norman Church around 1180 AD and the building was completed around 1220AD".
