Noake (1848) writes of a new church here "completed in 1732", and adds: "The original church, which stood on this site, is said to have been raised by some Crusaders on their return from the first holy war [...] Under the church is a spacious crypt, the floor of which was the floor of the old church, the hinges of the original entrance doors being still remaining." Miller (1890) reports "some fine Norman arches" in the crypt of this church that was re-built in 1730 and restored in 1887; the first recorded rector is given as "Walterus ... 1291". There is no mention of a font in either of the above sources. The Victoria County History (Worcester, vol. 4, 1924) notes: "The church of ST. NICHOLAS, on the east side of the Cross, was rebuilt about 1730 from designs by Thomas White, a native of Worcester and a pupil of Sir Christopher Wren. [...] Some few old monuments remain on the walls, but the fittings are modern." The crypt was turned into Worcester Citizens Advice Bureau by Henry Gorst's design company [www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/7577605.print/] and [www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/7728301.print/] [accessed 3 November 2014]
