There are three entries for Worcester [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SO8454/worcester/] [accessed 30 October 2014], neither of which mention cleric or church in it. Lewis' Dictionary of 1831 has: "a small old structure of stone, stood on the eastern bank of the Severn, although the principal part of the parish was on the western side of that river; but being much decayed, and liable to be flooded by the overflowing of the river, a new church, on an enlarged scale, was built, which was opened in 1823." Miller (1890) reports a Norman here, originally located across the river [i.e., on the east bank] from the church re-built in 1822-1823; he reported at the time [ca. 1890): "there are still remains of the old Norman work" at the old site. The Victoria County History (Worcester, vol. 4, 1924) reported of this church at the time: "nothing but a fragment of the west wall remains"; the original church, however, must have existed quite early, at least by 1179, as the VCH (ibid.) adds: "In the time of Bishop Roger (1164–79) the advowson of St. Clement's was given by Hugh Poer and Richard de Grafton to the Prior and convent of Worcester."
