No entry found for Dowles in the Domesday survey. The Victoria County History (Worcester, vol. 4, 1924) notes: "The church of Dowles was confirmed to the priory of Great Malvern in 1217. [...] The original building, which is said to have been of the 15th century, appears to have been entirely rebuilt in 1789 [...] The font, which is now circular, was originally square, but the bowl shows it to be of no great antiquity." [NB: not clear which font the VCH reports in its entry, obviously not the original one here] The Mission church at Button Oak [www.worcesterbmsgh.co.uk/parish/dowles] [accessed 23 October 2014] notes: "St Andrew's was the daughter church of Dowles Parish Church. The dedication (St Andrew) of the Dowles Church was transferred to Button Oak when it closed in 1956." The Mission church reports baptism registers from the old church starting in 1572.
