One of the two stoups in the cathedral church, a composite work that incorporates a stylophore couchant lion originaly from the church of Santa Maria Maggiore; the stoup consists of a hemispherical basin with a torus-scotia pattern, raised on a couchant lion with prey between its paws (the position of the 'prey' denotes protection by the lion), on top of a lower base with scrolled side decoration. [cf. Index entry for Como No. 2 for an almost identical stoup across nave at the west end]
