Balugaes / Balugães

Baptismal font now disused and located outside the church, by the west porch; it consists of a much-damaged roughly hemispherical basin raised on a round pedestal base decorated with a single moulding, and a plain square lower base or plinth. The basin has a part missing, a central drain -probably original- and a side drain likely a proof that it was used as a trough of some sort, either in the church garden or a farm nearby. The church has now a modern polygonal font furnished with an old fashioned font cover with a side lock; oddly, though, the lower half of the pedestal stem appear older than the basin, but the wrong shape to have served as base to the outside font.
