Font Notes:
Listed in Taufbecken aus Metallguss (Bronzefünten, Messingfünten) [www.grabinski-online.de/glocken/Fuenten.html] [accessed 21 September 2014] as a baptismal font made of bronze between 1260 and 1280, and destroyed in 1942. A B&W photograph of this font [Aufnahme-Nr. KBB 2.902] survives in the Bildindex der Kunst und Architektur [www.bildindex.de/obj20763685.html#|home] [accessed 21 September 2014]. The font consisted of a bucked-shaped basin decorated on the sides with window tracery; on the lower side was a running inscription; the basin was raised on a central round shaft that appears to be moulded, and four (?) standing figures arranged at 90-degree angles. The font cover was a low dome probably of a later date, decorated with a big fleuron and smaller heraldic devices around its base; on the fleuron was a fat dove finial; the cover had two large handles at opposite ends for manual lifting. Both font and cover appear to have been painted. The lower supporting figures may have represented wildmen, like those on the font at Petrikirche, also in Rostock.
