The ancient font here is made of Bentheim-Gildehaus sandstone; it consists of a narrow cylindrical basin decorated with two thick rope mouldings, one towards the top, the other towards the bottom; there is plain moulding at the centre ring position; the base is very short, plain and round. A metal baptismal dish insert appears on top of the stone basin. The font has been raised on a plain wooden cylindrical plinth or lower base to raise it the vessel to a manageable height. Was this really the font of the original Romanesque church here? It appears not to conform with the common designs of early fonts in this area. There is a modern octagonal font installed here in 1970, in a chapel/alcove towards the east end of the south side of the nave.
