The present font is a replacement of the one destroyed in the fire of 1842; it is made of alabaster and has, among other decorations, the symbols of the four Evangelists, the Trinity, the cross, a snake, a torch and the tables of the Ten Commanments; dates probably from 1849. This font appears to have survived the WWII bombings with some damage. [NB: we have no information on the earlier font here].
