Noted and illustrated in [www.flensburger-stadtgeschichte.de/St_Marien_Kirche.pdf] [accessed 3 July 2014]. Baptismal made cast in bronze by Mich[a]el Dibler in 1591, similar to the one done by Peter Hansen for Nikolaikirche in the same town; it consists of an almost cylindrical, bucket-shaped basin; below the upper rim are three bands of inscription containing Low German variations of Matthew 19.14 [Latet de Kinderken to mi kamen wente sulker ist dat Himmelrieke] and Mark 16.16 [Wol gelovet unde gedoft wert schal salich werden]; the inscription around the lower side of the basin identifies the maker as Michael Dibler and the year of its casting, 1591; a set of eight scenes appear between the inscriptions, in a decorated arcade, scenes of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Christ; the basin is supported on four standing figures identified as the four Evangelists by the symbol on the pedestal on which the figures stand. The font cover or baptismal dish appears modern and has an inscription as well, a text from Ephesians 4:5 form Luther Bibel 1545: "EIN HERR - EIN GLAUBE - EINE TAUFE" [cf. ImagesArea and FieldNotes for a detaileddescription of the programme decorating this font].
