Church Notes: Benedictine monastery of the 12thC; parish church ca. 1418;
Noted and illustrated in SIPA [www.monumentos.pt/Site/APP_PagesUser/SIPA.aspx?id=3874] [accessed 1 June 2014] as a polygonal baptismal font of granite located by the west wall, north side [="Junto à parede fundeira, no lado do Evangelho, surge a pia baptismal de taça poligonal, em cantaria, assente em pé também poligonal"]; SIPA (ibid.) further reports the cleaning and re-mounting of the font in the 1980 restoration [="montagem da pia baptismal, após limpeza da pedra"]. The basin appears octagonal with plain sides and a marked underbowl chamfer; the octagonal (?) upper base is also part of the basin volume, whereas the squat foot is a separate block. One of the sides of the basin has a large indentation made originally to accommodate a large metal lock for the cover, but the lock is gone and so has the cover.
