Baptismal font made of coarse local (?) granite; it consists of an irregular basin devoid of ornamentation, raised on a modern pedestal base; an octagonal modern cover has been fitted onto it, but the indentation carved out of the upper basin was probably made long ago to fit a metal lock, as is the tradition in this area. The font appears to heve been located originally at the west end of the church [cf. infra], but was moved and restored during the major restoration to the church reported in João de Castro, Boletim da Direcção-Geral dos Edifícios e Monumentos Nacionais (D.G.E.M.N.), N.º 63 – Igreja de Gatão – (Março de 1951) [http://dgemn-digital.wikidot.com/] [accessed 1 June 2014]. Castro writes about the restoration activities in this church at the time, which included the repairs to the font and its move from the original location: "Reparação da pia baptismal e construção de um novo gradeamento de resguardo." The particulars of the work involving the baptismal font and the area below the west gallery are given in this publication as well: "O coro, também atingido, indirectamente, por essa obra, foi então, a bem dizer, reconstruído.
