The present font in this church is made of red sandstone and dated by an inscription to 1608; it consists of a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with a broad flat moulding on which is carved an inscripttion that continues on the level below, from which is separated by a roll moulding; ribbed pattern around the underbowl; the base is cylindrical and moulded, and has an inscription around it; both inscriptions are in Latin; the German translation is provided in the parish web site [www.bergkirche-auerbach.de/kirche_taufstein.php] [accessed 31 May 2014]: "Im Jahre des Herrn 1608 wurde dieser Taufstein errichtet, als Magister Tobias Plaustarius Pfarrer (an) dieser Kirche Philipp Wentz Schultheiss, Mathaeus Wilch, Jacob Bach, Konrad Mennel, Johann Theobald Weigelt (=Weigold) und Johann Philipp aus Hochstädten Älteste Kirchenvorsteher) waren." Low-dome copper cover of 1982 designed by Hernn Wilhelm Busch. [NB: we have no information on the font of the original Romanesque church or of its 13th-century re-building].
