There are six entries for [Wood]Bastwick in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TG3315/woodbastwick/] [accessed 6 May 2014], none of which mentions a church or cleric in it. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "The Church was dedicated to St. Fabian, and was appropriated to the abbey of St. Bennet of Holm, first by William Tarbe Bishop of Norwich, next by Bishop William Raleigh, and after by William de Suffield, Bishop, in 1249, and a vicarage was settled". William de Turbeville [aka Tarbe] was bishop of Norwich 1146/47 to 1174, which would date the existence of this church to the mid-12th century or earlier. The present font in this church is modern. [cf. Index entry for Salhouse for a 14th-15th century font moved from here].
