Church Notes: The Historisches Lexikon der Schweiz [www.hls-dhs-dss.ch/textes/d/D3302.php] [accessed 21 April 2014] informs: 1984 excavations in and around the present church at Glis unearthed an early Christian church of ca. 500 containing a baptistery; the present parish church has late-Gothic and Renaissance elements, with early 16thC to mid-17thC dates
Baptismal font in a greyisch veined marble; it appears monolithic, with a tub-shaped basin on a square base; there are piping and moulding on the side of both basin and base. The font cover is a tall complex job of three colonnaded levels plus sculptural finial, probably of later date; (19th-century?) while the font itself could be earlier, perhaps 17th-century. The cover appears to be of the rim-buffet type, and with doors opening for access to the water, as there is no lifting apparatus, or room above to be lifted. Not far from the font is a holy-water stoup of the same material as the font, a shallow basin on a baluster-shaped pedestal base.
