Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "Here was in ancient days a church belonging to this village: I find it mentioned in the 52d of Henry III [i.e., 1268] and was appropriated to the priory of Nutley in Buckinghamshire, by the founder Walter Gifford Earl of that county, with 40 acres of glebe land [...] The church has been in ruins many years." Chambers (1829) writes: "Choseley [...] now in Ringstead [...] church has been a ruin many years".
