Church Notes: 12thC church almost totally destroyed in WWI; only the south portal survived. Listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00115498]: "Eglise du 12e-13e siècle détruite pendant la guerre de 1914-1918, reconstruite après-guerre. Seul subsiste le portail de l'ancienne église, daté du 13e siècle."
Font Notes:
Palissy [ref.: PM02000002] lists a 13th-century font, from either this church or the one at nearby Saint-Bandry, as destroyed in the 1914-1918 War: "église de Jouy ou église Saint-Bandry [...] fonts baptismaux [...] pierre : taillé [...] 13e siècle [...] Détruits pendant la guerre de 1914-1918." There is a second entry in Palissy [ref.: PM02000001] for another 13th-century font in one of the two churches: "église de Jouy ou église Saint-Bandry". The entry for the Eglise paroissiale Saint-Médard, Aizy-Jouy, in the Inventaire du Patrimoine Culturel de Picardie [http://inventaire.picardie.fr/docs/MERIMEEIA02001634.html] [accessed 27 January 2014] shows a square-to-round font in the re-built church; it does not look like a replica, but rather it has the appearance of a 16th-century font]. Illustrated in an undate drawing in the Archives départementales de l'Aisne [https://archives.aisne.fr] [accessed 5 May 2022] [cf. ImagesArea] -- [NB: there ought to be a second font in the other church here; two churches existed, St-Medard in Aizy, and St-Bandry in Jouy, as each hamlet had its own church -- TO BE RESOLVED]
