Font Notes:
Glandford has two entries in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/TG0441/glandford/] [accessed 20 January 2014], but there is no mention of either church or cleric in them. Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "G[landford] [w]as a hamlet at the survey, and so remains, to the King's manor of Snitterley, or Blakeney [...] The church, about 20 years past, was in decent repair, and there was service in it; at present it is in ruins: it had a nave, with a north isle, together about 30 feet broad, and in length, with the chancel, about 60 feet, all covered with lead, and a square tower, with one large bell [...] It is dedicated to St. Martin." [NB: Blomefield may have gathered his data around the 1750s, so the church would have already been in ruins by the 1730s; it was restored ca.1900 by Sir Alfred Jodrell, of Bayfield Hall]. The present font is described in English Heritage [Listing NGR: TG0439241413] [www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-224621-church-of-st-martin-letheringsett-with-g] [accessed 20 January 2014]: "White marble octagonal Cl5 style seven sacrament font copied from Walsoken, Norfolk; crocketted wooden font cover rising to a dove, fleurs de lys around rim." [NB: we have no information on its original font].
