Blomefield (1805-1810), in his entry for "Ritson East" writes: "The Church is dedicated to St. Mary, and was a rectory; Jeffrey and Ralph Baynard, about the reign of William I. gave the advowson to the priory of Lewes", but the change from rectory to vicarage appears to have taken place much later, as Blomefield (ibid.) lists rectors from 1270 to 1351, when "the rectory was appropriated to the chapel of St. George, at Windsor"; the first vicar listed is "John Rest, vicar, presented by the custos, &c. of Windsor", in 1359. [NB: we have not been able to identify this Ritson East St. Mary's with a present place in Norfolk, even though Blomefield lists all vicars though 1757].
