Font Notes:
Noted and illustrated in KIK-IRPA [http://balat.kikirpa.be/object/10039416] [accessed 6 September 2021] as the fragment of a former baptismal font later built into an exterior wall of the present church. The presence of a human figure in an arch is noted in Sid Pubben's De Fontibus Salvatoris: Over herkomst, gebruik en iconografie van een twaalfde-eeuws doopvont in Maastricht en Brussel [https://theses.ubn.ru.nl/bitstream/handle/123456789/8072/Pubben%2C_S.L.C.F._1.pdf?sequence=1] [accessed 6 September 2021], who refers to the KIK-IRPA entry and image above. The restoration of a baptismal font in this church is mentioned among the damaged items in the 1940 German bombings and restored in 1989 [source: Open Churches https://openchurches.eu/nl/gebouwen/saint-pierre-lessines [accessed 6 September 2021]. An e-mail communication from Pol Herman informs that " Plaster moldings had been made from the Lessines font, around the year 1920. They are documented in : Rousseau, H., Catalogue des moulages [Musées royaux d'Art et d'Histoire], 2e ed., 1926, p. 113. [...] You should find them in Inventaire du canton de Lessines by E.J. Soil de Moriamé (1926) [...] Some weeks ago, the museum curator confirmed me that the moldings were lost in 1930. [...] You can find them on BALaT " A communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 7 September 2022) suggests a reading of a partial inscription that decorates the arch above a figure on fragments of the medievak font: "PANTOCRATOR". He further points to similarities between this and the fragment of the Bruges No. 13 font.
