Font Notes:
The baptismal font here is one of the popular square table-top type made of the blue limestone of Tournai or the nearby quarries (Givet, etc.); it consists of a square basin, the sides carved with rounded acanthus plant and fruit motifs, the underbowl rounded and decorated at the angles with now faint shapes that are probably large leaves; the base consists of a very broad circular shaft in the centre and four thinner columns at 90-degree angles, apparently constructional with the centre shaft; all plain; the lower base is now below ground level and buried by the later raised flooring, but the discernible shapes suggest it is the usual combination of mouldings forming base for the columns of the base. A round cover of stacked mouldings is of roughly conical shape; not medieval. Listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: PM08000142]: " fonts baptismaux [...] calcaire : taillé [...] 12e siècle"
