Font Notes:
The present baptismal font is probably of the 18th century; it consists of a basin that is square inside and out, raised on a pedestal base of the same shape; it is set in an alcove or niche seprated from the nave by a metal railing; there is a wooden backdrop and canopy painted with a Baptism of Christ in the Jordan painting. This location of the font happens in a few of the local churches around Oloron. Note and illustrated in Visites Aquitaine [http://visites.aquitaine.fr/fonts-baptismaux-de-l-eglise-saint-jean-baptiste-10889] [accessed 22 December 2013]: "L’église Saint-Jean-Baptiste d’Arcangues est dotée de fonts baptismaux particulièrement travaillés et décorés.
