The present font in this church is, like the replacement building here, modern, of the mid-19th century; it consists of on octagonal basin of white marble decorated with quatrefoil motifs on the sides, raised on an octagonal stone pedestal base, also modern. This modern font is noted and illustrated in Visites Aquitaine [http://visites.aquitaine.fr/fonts-baptismaux-de-l-eglise-saint-jean-baptiste-4949] [accessed 22 December 2013]. We have no information on the original date of the earlier church here but, according to Cirot de la Ville (1867) the old church at Saint-Jean-d’Illac was subject to the parish of Saint Seurin du Pian ca. 1335. The archives of the diocese of Bordeaux [G422, (Carton.) - 39 pièces, parchemin ; 32 pièces, papier., série G (clergé séculier), archevêché de Bordeaux [http://archives.gironde.fr/ead/] [accessed 22 December 2013]] have a mention of this church in 1527: "Aveu rendu au chapitre par Jean Baquey, vigneron, pour le tiers d'une maison paroisse de Saint-Jean-d'Illac, rapportant deux deniers d'exporle (1527)". [NB: we have no information on the font of the original church here]
