The present font is modern; it consists of a roughly hemispherical basin bearing an inscription [FONS SALUTIS] on the side, raised on three Greek crosses instead of a pedestal, and a round lower base. Moulded dome cover of brass with Latin cross finial; also modern. Noted and illustrated in Visites Aquitaine [http://visites.aquitaine.fr/fonts-baptismaux-de-l-eglise-saint-barthelemy-11066] [accessed 8 December 2013]: “Les fonts baptismaux de l’église de Chéraute sont constitués d’une cuve totalement circulaire reposant sur un pied formé par plusieurs croix chrétiennes dressées verticalement. Sculptés dans la pierre, ils sont peu décorés, mais portent l’inscription gravée « Fons Salutis » [...] Les fonts sont recouverts d’un couvercle en cloche réalisé dans le métal et surmonté d’une petite croix."
