Font Notes:
Lampe & Willing (2012) note and illustrate a baptismal font of 1603 made or reddish sandstone, consisting of an octagonal tapering basin decorated with a pseudo-castellation pattern inder the rim, and charged shields on each of the sides inscribed in scrolled cartouches [cf. Derental, in the same area], a long German inscription wrapped around the sides both above and below the heraldic emblems; the base is an octagonal-to-square pedestal decorated with inscriptions and charged shields, and a tiny three step plinth. The shields are identified in this source as: on the basin: Closter, Camper, Wrisberg, Campe, Hake, Campe, Boyneburg, Campe; on the stem: [?], Kirchof, Grole, Holler. The inscriptions are matched with Mark 16: "Wer glaubt und getauft, der wird selig werden", and Romans 6: "Alle die getauft sind auf Christus Jesus, sind auf seinen Tod getauft". One of the names is identified as "Katatharina, Johanns nachgelassene Witwe", and another as "Heinrich Kirchhof, Pastor diese Kirche, 1603". The inscriptions are given in detail in the DIO [Nr. 161] where tha coats of arms are also identified and the font is illustrated.
