The present font here is described and illustrated in Kirchengemeinden Hehlen-Hohe [www.weserkirchen.de/seite/129153/kirche_hohe.html] [accessed 29 October 2013]: "Der Taufstein ist das älteste Ausstattungsstück. Baptismal font of sandstone, round with slightly tapering sides decorated with a rope-moulding at the upper rim, and an acanthus vine between it and a thin roll-moulding below; tha main area of the basin sides is decorated with a variety of motifs and an inscription in Latin, apparently referring to the seven sacraments or the seven virtues; besides the inscription are: floral motifs inscribed in circles, stylised floral and foliage motifs, a scalloped pattern, etc.; the short base is decorated with roll mouldings with scotias between. The above source notes that baptismal font was used as a support for the late-Gothic pulpit (16th century), but was restored to its liturgical function in 1933. The font, like the church building itself, dates probably from the 14th century.
