The present font in this church consists of an octagonal basin with moulding at the upper rim, and carved and painted cherub heads inside medalions on alternate of the basin sides, the other four totally blank; graded underbowl chamfer; plain octagonal pedestal base and graded lower base of the same shape. No cover present, nor are there any traces of hardware in the upper rim of the basin. The June 2011 issue of Monumente Online, Magazin der Deutschen Stiftung Denkmalschutz [www.monumente-online.de/11/03/sonderthema/Tiefurt_Dorfkirche.php] [accessed 6 October 2013] notes that the present font was introduced in 1803 by Duchess Anna Amalia of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, the benefactor responsible for the restoration of this church at the time. [NB: we have no information on the font of the original ca.1200 church here].
