One of three stone basins now kept in the abbey's stone museum. This one consists of an octagonal basin with plain vertical sides, and, like the other two in this room, appears totally plain; the inside well has vertical sides and is perfectly cylindrical, with a considerable drain hole at the centre; there may have been metal staples in its upper rim. Given its size and style, it could date anywhere between the 13th and the 15th century.
Credit and Acknowledgements: We are grateful to Dr. Madeleine Gray, of the School of Education/Ysgol Addysg, University of Wales, Newport/Prifysgol Cymru, Casnewydd, for her photographs of the three disused fonts here
