Lewis' dictionary of 1833 reports Llandugwell as a township of Llanfechell ["Llanvechell" in Lewis]: "This township was anciently a distinct parish, but the church, dedicated to St. Dogvael, having been allowed to fall into ruins, many years since, it ceased to be parochial". [NB: having been parochial previously, however, it would have had a baptismal font, but we have no information on it].
