Font Notes:
Monolithic baptismal font consisting of a large almost cylindrical basin with a rounded underbowl, all plain; raised on a very small splaying moulded base; there are remains of the metal staples of an old cover in the upper rim. Noted and illustrated in and article by Alfonso Rodríguez (Agencia EFE) in LaInformacion [http://noticias.lainformacion.com/arte-cultura-y-espectaculos/historia/la-pila-bautismal-de-ponce-de-leon-se-conserva-en-un-museo-puertorriqueno_sneZ9h4c7LcuvCMQf0RZz/] [accessed 2 September 2013], as the original baptismal font from the village of Santervás de Campos, Valladolid, Spain, believed to be the font in which the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León was baptised ca. 1460. The old font was donated in the 1960s by the Arzobispado de Valladolid, Spain, to the people of Puerto Rico, and is housed since at the Museo y Parque Histórico Ruinas de Caparra, in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. a replica of this font was made in 2013 by Miguel Jiménez, in his workshop in Medina de Rioseco (Valladolid, Spain) for San Agustín (Florida, USA). The present font is located in the one of the side apses of this church; it consists of a hemispherical basin decorated with ribbed pattern al around, below a roll moulding at the uppe rim; raised ona round pedestal base. We do not at present have any information on this later font, but it is probably modern [to be completed].
