Scene Description: seen from the north side [orientation approximate] -- the relationship between two volumes of the font can be discerned here and it appears to suggest that the auxiliary or secondary part may have been a later addition (unless the drainage channel through the side of the main basin was original)

Scene Description: showing here the area where the two basins come together; the secondary basin, broken and repaired, appears to have been a later addition cemented to the main basin [NB: in most double-fonts of the region the two basins are usually made of a single block of stone]

On-site notes: in a room off the side south of the nave, now used as storage, is the old stone font of this church; it consists of a plain heptagonal basin raised on a heptagonal pedestal base decorated with a single thick moulding; to the side of it is a secondary or auxiliary basin of semicircular shape, raised on a half-cylindrical pedestal base; the main basin is round on the inside and has no drain hole; there is a metal (lead?) insert that fits into it; the secondary basin is small and shows that it was broken and later repaired. The two parts of this font do not appear to have been part of the original design, the addition of the secondary basin and base perhaps a later event; there is however a draingae channel that goes from the secondary basin into the side of the main basin and, presumably, down through its side, although the side itself is now covered by the secondary base, itself cemented to the main base. The wooden cover is octagonal and flat, with a small trap door in the centre for access to the basin interior. There is a font or stoup in use, of black marble, consisting of an oval basin and a baluster pedestal base [measurements: int. diam: 43x59 cm; ext. diam.: 52x69 cm; basin h.: 18 cm; base h.: 65 cm; toral h.: 83 cm]
