Blomefield (1805-1810) writes; "The moiety of the town, and the advowson of the church, belonged to Roger Bigot's manor of Framingham [...] The mediety of Holveston that belonged to Vaux's manor, was consolidated before Norwich Domesday was made, to Burgh-Apeton, and the Earl's mediety was consolidated to Rockland mediety, and the church hath been so totally demolished, that it is now ploughed over: it was about 24 yards long, and stood on the west side of the road leading from Holveston-hall to Yelvertonheath, right between them, on the very pitch of the hill, from which place, the road to the heath is mended with its ruins, which were pulled down in memory of many now living, for that purpose, the road formerly joined to the south-east part of the churchyard, which it doth not now touch by about 50 yards." Blomefield (ibid.) names "Robert de Aylesham" as first recorded rector, in 1310. Kelly's Directory of 1883 notes: "The church of St. Mary was demolished some centuries ago, and no part of it now remains; a field a short distance from the Hall is pointed out as the site." [NB: the Roger Bigot to whom the moiety and advowson of this church belonged is the one named in the Domesday survey [cf. supra], and would therefore be identified as the Roger Bigod who arrived in England in the Norman invasion; Bigod [aka Bigot] died in 1107; the church is likely to have existed in his time, but we have no information on its font].
