Sao Miguel de Lousada / São Miguel de Lousada

Baptismal font made of granite, consisting of a roughly hemispherical basin the upper part of which appears to have been re-cut to polygonal; the top of the polygonal pedestal base appears to be part of the basin block, the lower is partly buried into the flooring. A large notch has been carved out of the bsin side near the upper rim to fit the metal pad to which the hasp of the cover lock attaches. The font is a crude work probably by a local mason; its design is one that has been used since the Romanesque period, which, together with the plainness of the work makes dating of the difficult difficult. The cover itself appears modern.
