The entry in Blomefield (1805-1810) appears as "Aldeburgh. Commonly called Arborough; [...] its name signifies the old burgh, it is often written in evidences Akenberwe [...] The church is dedicated to all the Saints [...] The tower is square, had originally three, but now there are six bells [...] The chancel is thatched, the church and south porch leaded; the north vestry is down. [...] The rector had a house and 40 acres of land, when Norwich Domesday was made" [i.e., 1086]. Blomefield (ibid.) names "John de Honyng" first recorded rector, in 1303. The present font is modern, probably from the 19th-century restoration of the building; it is noted in White's Directory of 1883: "The font, which is of Debased character, has been placed under the tower." [NB: we have no information on the font from the medieval church here].
