Church Notes: fabric of the church goes back to the 11th-12th centuries -- earlty dedication to St. Mary, changed in late-Middle Ages to St. James; re-dedicated in mid-20th century to St. Mary
The present font is an almost plain example of late-Reformation design, made of the local limestone known as 'Sussex marble' perhaps ca. 1700; it consists of a roughly hemispherical basin with a protruding moulded rim, plain sides and underbowl, raised on a plain round pedestal base and a wider circular lower base; on a small and plain square plinth. [NB: we have no information on the font from the 11th-century church here].
