Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "This church stood on an hill at the extremity of the bounds of Thetford, as we go to Santon, it being near two miles from Thetford town [...] when it was demolished, I cannot learn." Blomefield (ibid.) points out that the "Ecclesia, Sancte Elene" was recorded during Edward the Confessor's reign [i.e., 1042-1066] and in the Domesday Survey [1086]. [NB: we have no information on the font from that church].
