Blomefield (1805-1810) writes: "St. Ethelred, or St. Audry's Church. Stood on the Suffolk side, being in the deanery of Thetford and archdeaconry of Norwich; it was a rectory in the presentation of the Bishop of Ely, valued in King Edward the Third's time [i.e., 1327-1377] at 20s. [...] I find it in some of the Valors about Henry the Eighth's time [i.e., 1509-1547] valued at 47s. 9d." Blomefield (ibid.) names 'John of Gunthorp, chaplain', as the first recorded rector of this church, in 1303. [NB: we have no information on the font from this disappeared church].
